Telecomm Stress Tests. After the overwhelming success of our “human links,” we are holding a stress test on the Silverton telcom system on the 16th of every month beginning on April 16, 2009 from noon to 12:01 (one minute). Our first Stress Test in March went very well with hundreds participating in and outside of Silverton. We were able to stress the system for the minute we targeted at noon. Join us on the 16th for a better technological future for all of SW Colorado!

2005 Human Link. Our first “human link” formed on Saturday, May 27, 2005 at 3 PM to publicize the missing 16 miles of our fiber optic link. We started at the San Juan County Courthouse in Silverton where hundreds stretched hand-to-hand towards Durango. If Denver or another larger town had 30% of it’s citizens turn out for a public demonstration it would be the lead story for every TV channel and newspaper in the nation! The Iron Horse Classic Bicycle Race was on the same day and symbolic of the many other links between the Silverton and Durango communities. It was great having friends and neighbors from our extended community to the south join us to make the human link. Thank you for participating and lending your support to this cause. Letter-Writing Campaign: Spring 2008. Please help us to bring attention to Qwest’s attempt to rob our community of the fiber infrastructure that was funded by Colorado taxpayers in 2000. Send a letter or email to the people on our contact list to support Silverton’s technical and economic development. We have three different sample letters, depending on your relationship to Silverton and San Juan County, Colorado. The last link is brief summary of Operation Link Up with the mail and email address of our three primary elected officials in Colorado. Check back for new mailing campaigns to these and other recipients. Sending letters or e-mails on our behalf is greatly appreciated. Sample letters are linked below.

Our “human link” demonstrations proved that Silverton is not going to roll over and let Qwest or the State forget its fiber optic promise. |
