Bridging the Last 16 Miles of the Fiber Divide In Colorado |

|
Here’s the view from 16 miles on the other side of the fiber divide in Silverton, the county seat of San Juan County, Colorado. Phone, cell phone and internet traffic all come in together on the same microwave radio relay. We know because in 2004 we lost ALL communications to the outside world for a day when an avalanche took out one of the microwave relay stations! |

How To Help Us |
|
1. Stay in touch and get involved. It may take some time to resolve this situation. This website is one way we hope to keep everyone interested, informed and involved in our cause. We’re counting on our extended regional and internet community to participate with us in this effort, as they too have a stake in the service and bandwidth improvements we’d receive from fiber infrastructure. 2. Participate in our letter-writing campaigns and other events. A letter, email, fax or call can have an impact. It only takes a few moments to make your opinions known. We’re planning public events and other ways to help educate the general public about our situation. Follow this link for current news and events. 3. Join our email list for regular updates by writing info@operation-linkup.org. This is the best way to stay current on the progress of the last 16 miles of the Today, San Juan County is the absolute backwoods of Colorado telecommunications. We’re using the internet services we have to reach out to our extended community, so they can help us bridge the last miles of the fiber digital divide to a brighter future. Thanks for being a part of our grassroots coalition. |

Our first “human” link on May 27 of 2006 stretching from our courthouse to fill some of the fiber divide towards Durango. We’re planning a larger event for Memorial Day of 2009. |
